Job Description

Duffy, Burke and Co. is a firm of Certified Public Accountants based in Galway serving clients locally and nationally. The firm operates a paperless environment with its IT infrastructure completely in the Cloud and is focused on delivering cloud based, auditing, accounting and assurance engagements through a largely, remote environment.  

Our team of accountants work across many different sectors in delivering traditional assurance and tax services.  We also provide a significant amount of Internal Audit, Risk, Compliance and due diligence engagements to various sectors. The firm also provides forensic services for business valuations and family law matters.  

We currently have a vacancy for a Part-Qualified Accountant.  

The suitable applicant would be a business-related graduate who has already commenced their accountancy exams and training and ideally would have 2 years experience in practice.

 

The Role 

The main responsibilities of the role are: 

  • Sole traders, partnerships and companies such as charities and housing management  

  • Preparation of Working Papers and Financial Statements to partner review stage or manager stage 

  • Conduct of Audits in accordance with auditing principles for a broad range of clients 

  • Preparation of Tax Returns  

Working as part of a team and under the supervision of an accountant and partner, the part qualified accountant will gain a wide exposure to all aspects of Accounts preparation, Auditing, Taxation, Payroll, Bookkeeping, Tax Compliance, Business Plans and projections in a paperless environment. The firm operates across many different IT platforms depending on the client software, and candidates will gain in-depth knowledge of accounts production software as well as cloud software such as XERO, SAGE Business Cloud, QuickBooks online, Auto entry, to name but a few. 

In-house training on a candidates IT Skills is encouraged and provided on a regular basis. All trainee accountants receive the required support and study leave to help them achieve their professional qualification. Payment of course fees is included in the package. 

 

Desirable attributes and qualities would include: 

  • Proven educational track record in accountancy and finance subjects 

  • Ability to display good organisational, planning and communication skills both written and oral 

  • Attention to detail 

  • Comprehensive ability to display IT literacy, in particular use of MS EXCEL 

  • Good numeric and analytic skills 

  • Honesty, integrity and the ability to work effectively as part of a team 

  • Relevant Work experience within an accountancy practice
